Card Making Monday: Today Is Your Day

Happy Monday! This morning I came across this wonderful saying from Dr. Seuss in the form of a rubber cling stamp by Riley & Company. It's such an encouraging sentiment that needed to be turned into a card!

The sentiment was stamped in brown ink onto cream cardstock and layered onto pieces of patterned paper and vellum. I'm still crazy about vellum, so I was so excited to pick up decorative pieces from the Sheer Metallic collection by We R Memory Keepers. Before adhering the layers to the front, I splattered gold Glimmer Mist onto the base. 

This card came together quickly this morning, and I'm planning to make a set to mail off to friends in need of an encouraging note!

Card Making Monday : You're the Best!

Good morning! It sure feels like a Monday morning here... I'm dragging my feet and falling asleep at my desk. But I've got freshly brewed cup of coffee and a bright card to share with you. That's sure to get me going!

I had so much fun creating this card and playing around with a few inks. I sprayed Dragonfly Glimmer Mist directly onto a stencil (while it laid on a craft sheet). The stencil was then used as a stamp to transfer the design onto the card base. I didn't want the entire card full of the design; therefore, I only pushed down on the center of the stencil and kept the corners off the cardstock. A few splatters of orange completed the card base.

A few stars and this perfect sentiment from Avery Elle were layered onto the card base. The top square was made out of a vellum scrap I had laying around. I love how vellum adds an extra layer without adding an extra color or pattern!

Stamp, Stitch, & Splatter

Hello Paper Crafters! I'm here today presenting Drill #15 with the S.W.A.T Team! For this drill, we challenge you to use three fun techniques - Stamp it, Stitch it (machine, hand, or faux), & Spray or Splatter it! 

We can't give a great challenge without a prize! One lucky participant will receive a $10 gift card for 3 Scrappy Boys! 

I love all three of the techniques in this challenge and was THRILLED to use them all on one project! I started by adding brown ink splatters to my cream cardstock base. You can achieve this look over an even mist by removing the cap/nozzle and gently tapping the straw above the areas you'd like to ink. 

After Distressing the edges of two paper squares and adding a few patterned circles, I machine stitched a square to hold all of the pieces together. I love the added texture! 

I finished off the card with stamping! Looks like I did the three techniques in the challenge backwards! I paper pieced the bun and stove and adding it to the center. I grounded the image by cutting a small banner from brown patterned paper. I also stamped the sentiment onto a strip of cream cardstock, cut it up, and arranged it on the card front. Lastly, I embellished the card with a few star wood veneers.

On Trend :: Metallic Gold

Hello paper crafters! It's time for the On Trend Team of Practical Scrappers to bring you a new trendy technique for you to try. Today it's GOLD, baby! I love this current trend to add pops of metallic and shine to projects! 

I created the above layout, first laying down a background of gold paint splatters with Heidi Swapp Color Shine. The Color Shine was also used to color the cardstock arrows that were cut with the Silhouette Cameo. You can add just a hint of metallic in this way, coloring a title, paper flower, or other mistable embellishment.

For my title, I added a Dear Lizzy sticker. It was a little large for the space. So I folded each edge twice to create a dimensional banner. While searching for stickers and accents to layer on the page, I came across this gorgeous gold frame from Crate Paper. It added a third splash of gold without overwhelming the design.

On Trend :: Spray Ink

GOOOOOOOOD MORNING! It's Monday, which means it's time for 700 cups of coffee and a post from your Practical Scrappers On Trend Team! 

Today we're bringing you lots of inspiration using a new trend: SPRAY INK! You're going to love all the projects shown on the PS blog today using masks, inks, and more. Here's what I created for the post:

Let's be honest, I went crazy with ink splatters! I really wanted to have the illusion of rain and really added it on with a gold and blue ink. To create the splatters, I uncapped the bottle and gently tapped the nozzle above the paper. This gives much more defined ink splatters than pressing down on the nozzle and spraying.

I also sprayed a tiny bit of mist on my craft mat, picking up the ink with a paint brush and colored in my stamped image. You can create some great watercolor details with this technique.

Let's Catch Up

Good morning! I'm stopping by today to share a few cards I've created lately for Make N Takes at Creations Galore. I love the instant gratification that comes with whipping up a quick card.

I just died when I first saw this Penny Black stamp! How cute is she?! I did very little blending and shading with Copic markers on this image, making it easy to whip up a few to have on end!

I'm so sad to report Market Street Stamps has closed its doors. I loved their high quality and GORGEOUS stamps. They still have a few stamps available in their online store. But act quickly - Once they're sold out, they're gone! I made the card above with the Dreaming of the Sea stamp set. The background was made on glossy cardstock with Lettuce, Stream, and Raspberry Alcohol inks. The mermaid was then heat embossed with Princess Gold embossing powder from Ranger. MMS will be missed... I cry a little every time I think about it. Wish all the best to them on their new adventure!

Lastly, I have this card made inspired by my fisherman of a pops. The edges of each piece was distressed with the Tim Holtz Distressing Tool. The Hearts & Arrows Wood Veneers and spray ink is from Studio Calico.

New Workshop using BoBunny's Alora Collection

Hello friends. I'm so excited to announce the newest workshop I'm offering at Creations Galore. The monthly workshop, Scrapbook School, will be every third Thursday of the month, making May 16th the first one! Today on the Creations Galore blog, I shared the full picture of both layouts we'll be creating, and wanted to share it with you all. 

May's workshop will focus on distressing, embellishment clusters, and spray ink techniques. Each student will receive a large class kit, as well as page sketches and instruction sheets. Both layouts for the month of May were created with BoBunny's Alora collection. I've added in Doodlebug alpha stickers and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist as well.

I'll be working with each student to change up the layouts to fit their own photos and journaling. I can't wait for these workshops to start! Sketch It Saturday :: Hey Smartie!

If you found your way here from SWAT, please keep scrolling. This is my second post for today. 

Hello again! Unscripted Sketches has a new sketch for you to try! 

And here's the card I created for the challenge: 

Rather than piecing together smaller pieces of paper, I stuck with two patterned pieces and a sheet of vellum. I trimmed the striped paper to add the sentiment below it, creating the illusion of the bottom block of the sketch. The owl and sentiment from Peachy Keen Stamps was stamped on Copic X-Press It paper and colored with my favorite Copic marker colors. Because I already stamped a sentiment onto the card, I decided to add just a splash of color along the top right of the card base. I took the spray nozzle off the bottle of Dylusions spray, and used the plastic straw of the nozzle to drop the mist onto the card. With this technique, you get chunky splatter rather than a fine mist.

Hello paper crafters! I have some fun news to share with you today! You can now find me designing for the A Muse Studio Challenge Blog! We have some great inspiration, challenges, and prizes for you in the coming year! The first challenge will be in January, and you'll want to join in! To celebrate the announcement, I'm sharing a fun card I created using A Muse Studio products!

To create the background for this card, I cut out three snowflakes from scrap paper using an A Muse Studio die. After arranging the snowflakes on a piece of white cardstock, I sprayed the entire piece with Sky Splash!, a spray ink that coordinates with the A Muse Studio line of colors. I can't wait to try the spray on flowers, ribbons, and other embellishments!

After the spray dried, I stamped the image and sentiment, added some baker's twine, and adhered it to the card base with foam risers. To add just a little extra sparkle, I added Diamond glitter to each of the stars on the card with the Quickie Glue Pen.

Autumn Greetings

Good afternoon! Today's card was inspired by all the changing leaves outside. The leaves on the card are Studio Calico Mistables. I sprayed Mister Huey's Color Mist onto a craft mat and applied the color to the pieces with a paint brush. The pieces are self adhesive and adhere well. I had stuck one down too fast and decided to move it, but it was too late. Fantastic adhesive for such thick, durable embellishments!
