Card Making Monday: Cheers To You

Monday, April 14, 2014

Happy Monday! This morning I gathered all of my card making supplies and then sat down at my computer to find a fun sketch for today's project. After finding the mother of all card sketches on the Retro Sketches blog, I got to work.

I stayed true to original sketch, choosing not to change the orientation or design.

The diagonals were easy to create with my paper trimmer. I chose to cut just the blue and orange piece, layering them on top of a yellow square piece. The orange cardstock was embossed for added texture!

Thanks for checking out today's card. Enjoy your week!

Retro Sketches :: Caffeine Fix

Friday, August 16, 2013

Hello! Yesterday I planned to have a full day to myself. I anticipated not leaving my house, sleeping in, and spending the day in my pajamas at my craft table. Sounds great, right?! After a call at 7 AM from a friend in need, I knew the day would be nothing as I planned. And sure enough, I had two other friends after that with frustrating events that needed some tending to. Rather than a day as a hermit, I ran around town. And you know what? I wouldn't change it. At the very end of the day, I was able to sit down long enough to create this card, and it sums up each of those "appointments" pretty well.

I used the sketch above from Retro Sketches as inspiration. I can't get enough of this sentiment. There really is nothing caffeine (and maybe a really good friend with a day off) can't fix!

Market Street Stamps Coffee Card

The cup was stamped on white cardstock and layered on top of patterned papers and embellishments - Honestly, a random selection of items on my desk.

Thanks for stopping by. May this bit of caffeine in the form of a card brighten your day!

Flowers To Cheer You

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Good morning! This weekend I found the adorable sketch below on the Retro Sketches blog. As you can see, I'm too late to enter the challenge. But I just had to create a card using the sketch as inspiration!

And here's the card I created:

All of the papers are from We R Memory Keepers newest Chalkboard collection. The butterfly was stamped on both vellum and yellow cardstock and paper pieced together.

If you're looking for a starting point for your next project, head over to Retro Sketches for inspiration!

Retro Sketch #66 :: Metallic Butterfly

Friday, June 7, 2013

When creating cards, I love to head to Retro Sketches to check out their newest challenge. They never disappoint! Here's the current card sketch up on their blog:

And here's my take on it:

I love this butterfly stamp from All Night Media that I picked up from my local scrapbook store. It was heat embossed on glossy paper. Next, I added teal Mica Gloss to the image with a waterbrush. The water thins out the ink to give a subtle color. I adhered the butterfly only at the center with Glossy Accents. My favorite part of this card is the sentiment. It's a Class A'Peel Sticker from Stampendous. It makes it quick and easy to create a faux embossed image!

Thanks for checking out the blog today. You have until Midnight tonight to join in the fun of this week's Retro Sketch.

A Birthday Star

Friday, January 11, 2013

Yesterday I shared a card inspired by this sketch from Retro Sketches... Here's a link to the post if you missed it. I enjoyed the sketch so much, I created another card using it today!

I needed to quickly make a masculine birthday card, and this sketch helped achieve that goal! Join me tomorrow morning for a new card sketch from Unscripted Sketches. So many sketches, so little time.

Hello :: Retro Sketch Challenge

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Why hello! I found myself on the Retro Sketches Challenge blog today and fell in love with this week's card sketch. Take a look:

So fun! The first creation I made with this sketch is the card below. As you can see, I didn't center the elements as shown in the sketch and added a few more layers.

I've had this dimensional flower punch from EK Success for MONTHS and have been intimidated by it. So I got past the fear and gave it a try today. The result was amazing! I just love the look.

Thanks for stopping by... Head over to Retro Sketches and enter your own creation!
