Hello! I'm so excited to have you here for the first drill with S.W.A.T! Haven't heard of S.W.A.T? It's the newest, greatest challenge blog around. You can read more about it here, but before you do, let's talk about the first challenge!
Drill #1 is to turn that camera around! That's right - Create a layout that focuses on you!
To be honest, I thought this one would be easy for me. I'm a single gal with no children or pets. My whole life and routine revolves around me. But as I sat down at my craft table, I realized digging beyond the surface and focusing solely on yourself is challenging and somewhat uncomfortable. No one really ENJOYS being vulnerable, right?!
I decided to grab a photo from this past summer - I'm wearing a dress and cardigan - my usual attire, I have a scrunched up face - what always seems to happen when a photo's being taken, and I've got freshly cut hair - the blunt bangs and ombre has become my known look. Now that I think about it, I probably should add some hidden journaling explaining all of that!
I created the tag above from white cardstock and the top portion of an American Crafts journaling tag and added my signature. Maybe I'm weird or want to rebel against technology, but I cherish the everyday handwriting of my father, mother, and grandparents. I love seeing the similarities, what I've picked up from them, and the total differences. I sure hope someone can appreciate my chicken scratch someday. It's a part of who we are whether we like it or not!
I cut this cute lady out of patterned paper and added her to the layout with some doilies. I seem to always have to do things in threes; therefore, I've hidden three doilies on the page, as well as three clusters of buttons and bling. I also added some bling in between the words of my title. As I looked at the title, all I could see was MEAT. haha Oh man... I guess I didn't think out my title too thoroughly. I wrote out the first part of my title to match the journal element of the page.
For the journaling, I began by listing anything that came to mind that defined me as a person. Being a Green Bay Packer fan may not seem too important, but let me correct you - It is. I spend every Sunday around that fact. Church, lunch, football, nap. Disappointment sets in when they lose, and I'm an overconfident big shot when they win. Once I had let my mind wander, I highlighted the things that were most important to me and most explained who I was at this moment. I then wrote those 26 things (to correspond with my age) on pre-cut strips of white cardstock. After writing them out, I cut them down and arranged them onto the page.
This layout has quickly become one of my favorite pages. I may need to start a tradition of this... 80 things that define me at 80?! I'm going to need more paper!
Don't forget to head over to S.W.A.T. to see what the rest of my gorgeous Design Team members created for this drill! Flip around the camera and create a page all about yourself. Link it up before February 25th for a chance to win a great prize package! You'll want to check it out!
