Sketch It Saturday :: Enjoy The Season

Hello! It's Sketch It Saturday with Unscripted Sketches. Our Design Team has done it once again with great cards to inspire you. Head over to the blog to see what they've created and to link up your own project. Here's this week's sketch and my take on it:

For this card I used a BasicGrey embossing folder to add some texture to the white cardstock piece as well as die cut some leaves. I also added some black ink around all the pieces. The holly leaves were cut from glitter paper by American Crafts and are GORGEOUS. However, without the inked edge, it was hard to see the individual shapes. 

I colored the ornament and bow about 12 different ways with different mediums in different colors and was unsatisfied. In fact, I was just frustrated with the overall card. I finally decided that I wanted less. Less color, less jazz. Therefore, I colored in some elements with red and let the white shine.

Create Your Own Gift Tags :: Glitter Love

Hello blogland! I received some great winter and valentine themed products from A Muse Studio yesterday. I was too busy last night preparing for a ladies tea and cookie exchange that I didn't get to play with all the fun supplies until tonight! Here's the first thing I created with the winter items:

This tag is actually a 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" piece of Sugar cardstock. To transform it from just a piece of cardstock to a traditional tag, I cut the top corner off the right hand side. Then I placed the scrap triangle on the opposite corner as a cutting guide to ensure both sides were exact.  

How gorgeous is this even layer of glitter?! Replicating this technique is far easier than it looks! Just place a strip of 1/4" Scor-Tape onto the tag base like this:

After lifting up the tape backing, sprinkle diamond glitter over the area, tap off the excess, and use a paint brush to sweep away any stray flecks. The end result is stunning! 

To create the bottom half of the tag, cut a separate 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece of cardstock. Place more strips of Scor-Tape onto the piece and peal off the backing. I cut 6- 1/2"x 2" strips, but you could cut any size and quantity. Place the strips diagonally onto the cardstock base. Trim ends and adhere to the tag.

I used the Vintage Holiday Greetings stamp set which offers a few different sayings and stamped them in cherry ink. 

For a matching tag reinforcement, cut a circle from cherry cardstock using a 1/2" punch. After adhering it to the tag, use a smaller punch to create a hole through the circle and the tag base. Insert some fun baker's twine in matching cherry, and you have a gorgeous tag to add to your gifts, cards, or scrapbook pages.

Clean & Simple

Good morning! Today I'm sharing a card created for a friend who is moving far far away to pursue her dreams. I'm so happy for her and yet so sad to see her go. It's not a highly decorated card, but sometimes those are the best kind!

I cut the flags separately and couldn't believe how perfectly they turned out. I'll probably never be able to do that again! The inspiration for this card came from the Paper Smooches Designer Drafts. I love using card sketches as a starting point!

I dare you not to smile...

Hello blogland! I received some wonderful news this morning... I was selected as a Trigger Target at Moxie Fab World. Woo hoo! I love their challenges. It's so wonderful to be able to share my love for paper crafting with people all over the world... and to see what you're working on to! 

I must be on a circles kick lately, because here's another card I created with a scattered circle background. I've had this ADORABLE hippo stamp from Stamps By Judith for a bit now... It's a new release stamp. Judith has come up with coordinating stamps, like a gun holster and cowboy hat, but I wanted to stick with just him today. And after seeing this fun BoBunny patterned paper, I had to make it into a birthday card! 

I stamped the hippo onto Copic X-Press It cardstock and colored him in with Copic markers. I didn't want to hide the image; therefore, I stamped the sentiment on vellum with black embossing powder. After studying the card a few minutes, I would love to make another rendition... Maybe with the hippo holding a balloon. I'll work on it and get back to you ;)

My Weekend In Pictures

Happy Monday. It's time to round up the pictures on my phone and share them with you fine folks. Here's what I've been up to....

I put up my Christmas tree, spent 2 days moving around ornaments until I got it just right, and hung a kissing ball. Who wants to come over and be the first to try it out?

P.S. There's a box full of lights and other decor that still needs to be hung, as well as a wreath thats just leaning against my door. hahahaha oh my... Note to self: Purchase door hanger. 

I spent some night-time hours at work preparing for the week ahead. It was just me, some good tunes (a combo of Elvis Presley Christmas and Mumford & Sons Babel), and that gorgeous Vagabond. Yay Tim Holtz... thank you for making my life pretty and so much easier.

I had some fun wondering around downtown (just a few blocks from my humble abode) with my dear friend, Anna, and roommate, Rachael (wait... how'd they get out of the photographs?!) checking out the shop windows decorated for the holidays. Check out this awesome and extremely blurry photo of me attempting to fly:

We eventually settled into Chefusion, a wonderful bar and lounge where we indulged in cheese platters, creme brulee, and live jazz music:

Somehow we also packed in a improv comedy show that night as well. I was laughing far too hard to even think about taking a pictures... Good work players. 

Finished up the weekend with a metro ride, church, and a nap during the Packers half time show.

I'd say that's one full, delightful life. How was your weekend?
