Project Life Update : Week 16

Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Good morning. It's time for another Project Life update here on the blog, sharing with you today Week 16. For me, this week is April 16th through April 22nd.

Project Life Spread
This spread includes: 6 cell phone pictures, 3 camera pictures, 1 screen shot, 1 bus pass, and 3 web photos. All the photos were printed at a local photo lab...This was my first time trying this location, and I was highly disappointed. It wasn't until I completed the spread and paged through the album, that I realized just how grey the photos are. If only I had noticed sooner. That's what I get for working in dim light this week. I really love the idea of white borders...And I say idea, because they're anything but white. boo. I'm resisting the urge to take it all apart and instead, enjoy another week documented.

What happened this week: Easter lunch with extended family, Brewers baseball game, movie watching, coffee addiction, received one amazing gift, and embarked on a disappointing adventure.

I didn't include the exact dates of this spread on any title card; however, I did add a week marker. I occasionally slip in metro cards that have a date on them. It's a great way to add memorabilia while documenting a source of transportation.

I love documenting the movies, songs, and TV shows that are entertaining me. Adding a quote is one way to do so. This week I had a few extra pockets, so I wrote down a long, famous, inspiring quote from one of my favorite movies that I happened to watch this week. I printed a photo from the movie and added vellum and the ending of the quote. I can't wait to try this technique again.

I've recently fallen in love with the 4x6 paper pads that coordinate with Studio Calico's Project Life Kits. The extra paper works wonders for backing photos or creating your own journaling cards, and I've used it several places in this week's spread.

Project Life Update: Week 3

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Happy Wednesday, bloggers! I'm back with an update on Project Life 2014. This spread takes a look at the third week of January and contains some pretty fun stuff.

The journaling cards from this spread are all from Studio Calico Project Life kits. I received an email today that my February kit will arrive to my door today, and I couldn't be more excited to open it up, explore the contents, and start working on the last two weeks.

This spread includes: 5 cell phone pictures, 1 screenshot, a movie poster, a mini calendar, and part of a baby shower invite. All of the photos were printed at home using my HP printer on glossy paper.

What happened this week: Baby shower for a close friend, crop night with birthday cake, happy mail, breakfast for dinner, a snow storm, doodles galore, a lack of sleep, and a Sunday movie.

This spread is still missing a picture from the baby shower. Just ignore that empty pocket, ok?! It's obvious I am obsessed with journaling labels. Most are Studio Calico digital downloads; however, I recently picked up some adorable Ormolu Labels & Pennants from Scraptastic Club.

I had intended to include the full baby shower invite using Attach Me Stickers from BasicGrey. However, I didn't have too many pictures for the week. The invite was trimmed down and slipped into one of the 4x6 pockets. I love that it still captured the design, name, place, and date.

I'm not a fan of pastel colors, especially pink. So I was quite surprised that I added so much pastel pink and blue to this spread. The food & fun journaling card was too cute not to use, and the colors fit with my pictures for this week. So I went with it.

So much snow. I've tried to include one weather or world news related item every week, and this picture worked for this week. It was another snow storm where we closed down the shop and headed home on white roads.

Another week of documenting life in the album. Feels so good. How are you doing on your Project Life album?

Project Life with Practical Scrappers

Friday, September 6, 2013

Good afternoon! So glad you joined me today for another Project Life Feature with Practical Scrappers! Yesterday I shared an introductory post to today's layout. This spread documents a recent ATV trip with my extended family. Our cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin brings the whole family together.

I'm using pocket protectors from American Crafts and Albums Made Easy Kits from We R Memory Keepers. All of the photos were taken with my camera (no cell phone pictures!).

Love the above photo. It's my dad and his brothers. They like to cut him in half in photos and joke about the pun. Unfortunately, I had a few problems printing off these photos and it looks more like his 1/3 of a brother. Ha! But I just had to document the event!

The Silhouette Cameo was used in a few spots, such as the 'let's go' cut above. I backed it with faux woodgrain paper to help it standout. The 'trail riding' title was then cut from the same paper.

I used a lot of stitching on this layout, securing sticker letters and adding a border to photos. I really love the extra texture it gave the project. My typewriter also got lots of use on this layout. I typed directly onto the 3x4 card - My Project Life cards from Studio Calico are a little too thick to fit nicely in my typewriter; however, the WRMK cards are thin and perfect! Additionally, I typed some journaling on to white cardstock, cut it into strips, and adhered it to a 4x6 card.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to head to the Practical Scrappers blog to see more Project Life inspired posts.

Father of the Year Layout

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Good afternoon! Let's start today's post with a little confession: I love Jurassic Park. You may remember a post discussing my trip to see the giant T-Rex from the movie in Time Square last summer. Therefore, I was ridiculously excited for the release of the movie in 3D for its 20th anniversary. My dad, being the awesome guy that he is, took me and my roommate to see it. Poor guy had to take a nap before the movie so he'd stay awake that late! haha I couldn't help but document the entertaining evening.

I used the Clippings Collection by BasicGrey for this layout. All of the papers matched the colors in my picture of the movie theatre perfectly. Because the page focused on my dad and his desire to support my nerdy enjoyments, I wanted the page to have a more masculine feel.

In addition to BasicGrey papers and embellishments, I added a few things from Ormolu, Chic Tags, and this adorable paper clip from K&Co.

I found this ticket sticker from Hampton Art and wanted to incorporate it into the project. Since three of us went, I cut matching letters from white cardstock with the Silhouette Cameo and layered them onto the page. I added more stars like the one printed on the ticket by adhering a few gold star sequins that were included in a recent Studio Calico Project Life Kit.

Thanks for checking out today's project! Do you ever document your favorite movies or tv shows?

Practical Scrappers :: June Sketch

Friday, June 14, 2013

Thanks for joining me today. I'm posting with Practical Scrappers... And boy do we have a great sketch to share with you from our very own Liz! Take a look:

I'm so in love with this sketch... Especially all the circles. Here's my take:

This will serve as a title page for my trip to Chicago last June for the Renegade Craft Fair. Rather than place physical circles onto my page, I added them with spray ink. Recreate this look by uncapping the bottle, and use the straw or nozzle (what would be the right word here?!) to draw the circles onto the paper. Dip the straw back into the bottle to get more ink, and gently tap the straw above the paper to create the extra splatters.

I used a combination of printables, stickers, and die cuts to embellish the page. The sentiment below is actually a 3x4 journaling card cut out from Simple Stories. I couldn't resist adding it to the page in place of the four flags the sketch called for.

I hope you've enjoyed my take on this month's sketch with Practical Scrappers. We'd love to see you tackle it too! Upload your project to our Facebook Page!
