Scrapping Our Stash : April Blog Hop

Friday, April 25, 2014

Welcome to April's Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop with Practical Scrappers! You should have found your way here from Brenda's blog. If not, make sure to head over to the Practical Scrappers blog to find a full list and start from the beginning. You're in for lots of inspiration!

For this month's project, I pulled out a few pieces from BoBunny's Enchanted Collection. This collection is a few years old and is absolutely gorgeous - Black and white and glitter all over! For this layout, only a small portion of the patterned paper peeks through the layers, but it was just enough.

Bride Wedding Layout
The pictures are of the most darling of brides, a dear friend of mine. They cried to be the main focal point; therefore, I tried to create a minimalist layout. The doilies, a never-ending supply in my stash, added texture without overpowering the page. I promise I can sew in a straight line, but I went for a messy look, adding an additional layer of dark grey thread.

Thanks for hopping along... And thank you to Glitz Photography for the pictures of my gorgeous friend! Your next stop is Susie's blog with more Stash Scrappin fun!

Easter Greetings with Practical Scrappers

Friday, April 4, 2014

This morning you can find me contributing to the Practical Scrappers blog with this fun Easter themed card.

Xcut Easter Egg Die
I've been quite obsessed lately with using negative space, filling the word or shape with patterned paper or washi tape. This time I decided to use the actual die cut and spice it up.

Xcut Easter Egg Dies
I found these large egg shaped dies from Xcut and gathered together some scraps from last year's Easter themed collection by We R Memory Keepers. Side note: The white background/packaging of Xcut Cutting Dies is a magnetic sheet. Hello easy storage! I simply covered the egg with my favorite Scor-Tape, and laid down the one inch strips of paper.

March Scrap Your Stash Blog Hop :: Spring Tag

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Hello and welcome to the next stop on the Practical Scrappers Blog Hop where we're Scrapping Our Stash! You should have found your way here from Lisa Peeples. You're not going to want to miss a single hop along the way, so head over to the Practical Scrapper Blog to start from the very beginning!

Tim Holtz Spring Tag
For this month, I dug out an older Spring themed set from the talented Tim Holtz. I just love this rabbit image, but have never used it -- Self diagnosed hoarder! The stamp was embossed onto kraft paper and layered onto a watercolor tag.

Tim Holtz Spring Tag
I used a waterbrush and Distress Ink pad to create the watercolor background. After it dried, the florals from the stamp set were added to the tag bottom with black ink. My favorite part of the tag is the pearl embellishments made with a Viva Pearl Pen. What a simple, affordable way to create faux embellishments.

Ten Things : Use Your Ribbon Scraps

Saturday, January 11, 2014

I'm thrilled to be joining the Practical Scrappers team to show one of ten different ways to creatively use your ribbon! Now, I love filling negative space with patterned paper. Why not fill that with ribbon? It didn't take long for me to gather together ribbon scraps from around my craft room and create this card...

Use Your Ribbon Scraps (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
I started by cutting a circle from a piece of white cardstock. You could recreate this with any shape using a punch, Cricut, or Silhouette. After trimming the cardstock to the desired card size, I adhered the ribbon scraps around the circle using a hot glue gun. The piece was then flipped over and adhered to a card base with foam risers.

Silhouette Cameo Card Embellishments
The card was embellished with matching die cuts and bling. I had so much fun making this card that I can't wait to make a dozen more to use up all my ribbon pieces!

Scrap Your Stash : Practical Scrappers Blog Hop

Friday, January 10, 2014

Good morning and welcome to the Practical Scrappers Blog Hop! You should have found your way here from Erin's blog. Thanks for hopping along. In case you get lost, or want to start at the very beginning, visit the Practical Scrappers Blog

CHA is in full swing and that means the industry is showing off some amazing new product that I can't wait to get my hands on! Who's with me?! In order to make room for all the new stuff I'm sure to pick up, we're kicking off our monthly Scrapping Our Stash Series with a Blog Hop!

Beauty Layout (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
I looked through my papers and embellishments for some papers I had been hoarding and immediately came across this 'you are awesome' paper. It is awesome, and it was time to be used. I paired it with a few Studio Calico papers from past scrapbooking kits and beauty photos. My sister-in-law Elle asked me to be a model last year for her final portfolio. She cut and dyed my hair, styled the outfit, and created nothing but beauty. I wanted to document the experience and journal about how proud we are of her accomplishment!

Scrapbook Layout
I also looked at my Silhouette designs that I've purchased the last year and found so many I haven't used yet! This was the perfect opportunity to cut that adorable scissors. I cut the beauty script with the Silhouette as well, forming the 'Create Beauty' title.

Silhouette Cameo Embellishments
As a thank you for hopping along with us today, there's a prize up for grabs from Kiwi Lane Designs. You can do any or all of the following for up to three entries:

Spreading the love of paper crafting...

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Today's an exciting day for me, and I can't wait to share that excitement with you!

First up, I'm sharing a Thanksgiving layout on the Practical Scrappers blog today. It's my very first individual feature for the site, and I'd love it if you headed over to check it out. In addition to my feature about getting the most from your supplies, you'll find lots of inspiration from my fellow design team members. They're full of creativity and talent!

Thanksgiving Scrapbook Layout

Second, my crazy face was on a local news station this morning. I spoke on the Project Life and Albums Made Easy systems, both fantastic tools for getting those wedding, travel, or daily photos off your camera or phone and into beautiful albums. You can see the segment here. If you're in the Green Bay area, please stop by Creations Galore where I work... It's a gorgeous scrapbooking and card making store. We have 10,000 square feet of paper crafting goodies.

Thanks for sharing in my fun news. What exciting things have you been up to lately?

For The Love Of Plaid

Friday, October 25, 2013

Hello friends! How has your week been? I've spent most of my week organizing and printing photos rather than getting my hands dirty crafting. I was able to carve away a small amount of time to create this fun layout...

Plaid scrapbook layout
Every Sunday my family meets for lunch. On one of these afternoons, my father, brother, and nephew all showed up with plaid and blue jeans. I couldn't help but document the occasion.

The only plaid pattern in my stash that matched the colors of my photos was the background page by We R Memory Keepers. I then added manly patterns and colors, distressing the edges of the paper pieces to give an even more masculine feel.

Faux stitching
The title was a combination of Studio Calico sticker letters, my handwriting, and letters cut on the Silhouette Cameo from patterned paper. Since the letters were the same pattern as the background, I added some faux stitching to help it stand out.

The layout was completed with some real stitching and ink splatters.

Thanks for stopping by!

PS October Sketch : Love You Forever

Friday, October 11, 2013

Good morning! I'm here today to share a great sketch from Liz Chidester. You can find the sketch with lots of inspiration from my fellow Design Team Members on the Practical Scrappers Blog

Scrapbook sketch
I made the layout below using the sketch; however, I forgot about the fall theme our Design Team was trying to incorporate. Therefore, you won't see it on the Practical Scrappers blog. But the sketch is just too fabulous, and the subject of this layout is just too cute.

Baby Scrapbook Layout
I kept the three blogs of paper behind the photos, but chose to add an additional layer. I also extended the small line on the bottom right of the photo to anchor the photos. The stars in the sketch were transfered onto the page as I found a few wood veneers in my stash. I mixed them with hearts, die cuts, and stamps. StazOn ink is a must-have when stamping on photos! Here are a few detail shots of the layout...

Project Life with Practical Scrappers

Friday, September 20, 2013

Good morning! It's time for another Project Life feature with Practical Scrappers! This week I've used Project Life pocket page protectors to supplement my 12x12 traditional layout!

I created this sunburst layout a while back - You can see the full post about it here. I had extra photos from the same afternoon along with important journaling. Therefore, I added a pocket page alongside the 12x12 page in my album to tell the full story!

I used papers and embellishments from a recent Citrus Twist Scrapbooking Kit and journaling cards and stamps from a Studio Calico Project Life Kit. All of the pictures were taken with my camera instead of cell phone - a rare occurrence.

I challenge you to use some pockets in your own albums to add additional photos and journaling. Don't forget to head over to the Practical Scrappers blog for more Project Life inspiration!

Project Life with Practical Scrappers

Friday, September 6, 2013

Good afternoon! So glad you joined me today for another Project Life Feature with Practical Scrappers! Yesterday I shared an introductory post to today's layout. This spread documents a recent ATV trip with my extended family. Our cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin brings the whole family together.

I'm using pocket protectors from American Crafts and Albums Made Easy Kits from We R Memory Keepers. All of the photos were taken with my camera (no cell phone pictures!).

Love the above photo. It's my dad and his brothers. They like to cut him in half in photos and joke about the pun. Unfortunately, I had a few problems printing off these photos and it looks more like his 1/3 of a brother. Ha! But I just had to document the event!

The Silhouette Cameo was used in a few spots, such as the 'let's go' cut above. I backed it with faux woodgrain paper to help it standout. The 'trail riding' title was then cut from the same paper.

I used a lot of stitching on this layout, securing sticker letters and adding a border to photos. I really love the extra texture it gave the project. My typewriter also got lots of use on this layout. I typed directly onto the 3x4 card - My Project Life cards from Studio Calico are a little too thick to fit nicely in my typewriter; however, the WRMK cards are thin and perfect! Additionally, I typed some journaling on to white cardstock, cut it into strips, and adhered it to a 4x6 card.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to head to the Practical Scrappers blog to see more Project Life inspired posts.

On Trend :: Trees

Monday, August 26, 2013

The On Trend Team of Practical Scrappers is headed back to nature today with a fun assignment to try: TREES!

While looking through my photos ready to be scrapped, I came across this photo of trees. Funny, right?! I decided to take a literal approach, posting this picture along with several others of my nephew's first fishing trip.

Fishing scrapbook layout

BoBunny's Trail Mix collection won me over, and I haven't stopped creating with it. You can see a few projects made with the collection here and here. While flipping through my leftover hoarded supplies, I found this 12x12 tree paper. How convenient! I used it as the background and brought in a pice of the bark paper as well. This is one of the few layouts that I didn't plan before gluing items down. Therefore, it's a little crazy and jumbled, but it came together in under 15 minutes!

Just a note about my nephew in this picture. He LOVES behind held this way, and for the first few months he would cry if he wasn't laying in this position. I call him the expert planker. That bottom picture cracks me up every time!

I added a Dear Lizzy tag to the layout with foam risers in place of a traditional title and then placed Trail Mix die cut stickers around the layout. Before placing the sticker down, I used my fingers to round the corners. This gives a little dimension to the otherwise flat stickers.

Head over to the Practical Scrappers blog to see how the other design team members took on this trend! Thanks for stopping by.

On Trend :: Back To School

Monday, August 19, 2013

It's another gorgeous Monday morning, which means it's time to bring you another trend along with the talented ladies at Practical Scrappers. Today we're exploring BACK TO SCHOOL!

The kiddos aren't the only ones headed back into the classroom, I created a card for a teacher friend about to embark on her first year!

Graduation Card (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)

I found some old BoBunny papers in my stash from the Learning Curve collection, along with these stamps from We R Memory Keepers Show & Tell collection. So glad I was able to put these to good use! I cut out a few of the flash cards from the patterned paper and layered them onto the card front. Next, I stamped the images onto the papers, cut them out, and added them as the next layer. The sentiment and book were adhered with foam risers to give added dimension.

On Trend :: Sunbursts

Monday, August 12, 2013

Happy Monday! It's time for another feature with the On Trend team at Practical Scrappers. Today we're looking at the sunburst trend. With summer in full swing, we're seeing this all over! I'm so excited to bring you my take in the form of layout.

This gorgeous background paper full of clouds was the perfect starting point to document my summer photos. I found a coordinating paper and cut triangles freehand and arranged them onto the page. Embrace imperfection! No need to measure or draw them out first. Just cut. Independently, a single triangle may look weird, but it creates a fun sun as a whole.

Faux stitching was added with a black pen to the sun rays and the word 'fly' (cut with the Silhouette Cameo). I recently received a kit from Citrus Twist with the stamp I used below the title. This layout came together so quickly with the help of the kit... I highly recommend checking out their site! They have 3 and 6 month subscriptions along with a single trial kit if desired!

Head over to the Practical Scrappers blog to see the beautiful projects using this hot trend!
